The Africa Prize
Alumni programme
Our alumni programme offers opportunities, further funding and guidance to past Africa Prize awardees.
The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation launched its alumni programme in 2020 with support from the UK Government's Global Challenges Research Fund. After each cycle, the shortlist is welcomed into the alumni community, a supportive network of fellow entrepreneurs, all linked through their shared experience of the programme.
Our alumni community is now over 150 businesses strong and has members from across 23 countries across sub-Saharan Africa and 15 different engineering disciplines.
The alumni network is a space to share successes, connections and opportunities with other Academy alumni, including: LIF, HEPSAA, Frontiers, Engineering X and Enterprise Hub.
The Africa Prize interactive map allows for easy searching by either country, cohort, SDG or alumni status.
The Africa Prize alumni programme provides opportunities such as:
- Alumni Grants: business, service delivery and training
- Communications support
- Webinar and event participation and invitation
- Alumni Mentor Programme
- Engineering a Better World Internships
- Networking, speaker and event opportunities
- Annual un-conference
- Manufacturing Network
- Wellbeing support: Mindfulness Series and Headspace Subscriptions
- Buddy Programme
- Publication features
- Global Innovation Network newsletter features
We have recently appointed an Africa Prize Alumni Representative Committee (ARC) to feed in the alumni perspective to both the direction of the programme and the offering of alumni activities to ensure that the programme continues to improve and provide maximum benefit.
