On Thursday 13 June, four finalists will pitch their businesses in Nairobi, Kenya for the chance to win £50,000 and be crowned the winner of the 2024 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.
The 10th Anniversary Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation final promises to be a landmark event, showcasing the innovations of 16 African entrepreneurs who have dedicated themselves to honing their engineering solutions over the past eight months.
This year’s final will take place on Thursday 13 June at Movenpick Residences Nairobi, Kenya, from 4:30 EAT and will also be livestreamed internationally for viewers at home. Everyone is welcome to join the event, in particular other innovators, industry partners, investors and other stakeholders.
For the past eight months, 16 talented entrepreneurs have undertaken intensive training and mentoring from international business leaders and experts. The shortlist includes engineers from Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
At the final event, the innovators will pitch their work to a panel of judges for the chance to become the winner of the 2024 Africa Prize and receive £50,000. Three finalists will be awarded £15,000 each, and the audience will select a One-to-Watch winner of £5,000 for the most impactful shortlist pitch. Those unable to attend in person can join an online livestream and participate in the One to Watch vote. The event will also include an exhibition featuring the 2024 Africa Prize shortlist and their innovations.
Alongside this year’s Africa Prize shortlist, the event will also bring together 80 talented alumni who have participated in the programme over the last ten years for a three-day reunion in Nairobi. They will take part in tailored training sessions, activities, and an investor community event.
Under the theme of “Powering Africa’s Future: Looking ahead to the next 10 Years of Innovation”, the event will not only celebrate past achievements but also set the stage for the next decade of progress, as well as provide a platform for networking and collaboration within Kenya’s vibrant start-up ecosystem.
